Engineering, procurement, and construction of 2 unit of Gas Turbine Inlet-Air Cooling Systems of Mahtab Zarand combined cycle power plant

With the round-the-clock efforts of knowledge based Engineering and Service Company and with the support of Kerman Power Generation Company and the support of TPPH, an increase of 40 megawatts was achieved in the Mahtab Zarand combined cycle power plant of Kerman. In order to achieve this, the gas turbine inlet air cooling system project was implemented and operated with the aim of removing production limitations and increasing power in the hot season.

By installing the Media system on the two gas units of Mehtab Zarand Zarand power plant, 40 megawatts of electricity production capacity has been increased during the peak consumption period. The use of this system increases the production of 20 megawatts per unit by reducing the temperature of the air entering the compressor.

Reducing the output power, especially in the hot season, when energy consumption reaches its maximum value, causes many problems. In order to solve this problem, different solutions are used. Cooling the air entering the gas turbine can reduce the mentioned limitations.

The very simple performance of media coolers as one of the evaporation methods has suggested their use as one of the best methods of cooling the inlet air of gas turbines in the world. Also, the media system installation project has been localized in the country by using the capabilities of Iranian knowledge-based companies and domestic experts at a much lower cost than the foreign model.

It should be mentioned that Mahtab Zarand combined cycle power plant is located on a land of 52 hectares with a capacity of 484 megawatts, 20 km from Zarand city of Kerman and in the vicinity of Ali Abad village.

5 June, the World Environment Day; Subject: What environmental results follow the implementation of cooling plans?

On the eve of the World Environment Day (5 June), we have taken a look at the environmental results of the implementation of cooling projects:

  • Environmental results of implementing cooling plans

    • fuel consumption

The use of evaporative cooling system in gas turbines leads to a decrease in the inlet temperature to the compressor and the entry of cooler air that is denser leads to an increase in the air mass flow rate. With more air coming in, more fuel is needed in the combustion chamber. Therefore, at first glance, gas turbine fuel consumption increases when the evaporative cooler is in the circuit. However, this increase in consumption is accompanied by an increase in the production power of the turbine. Therefore, it is more accurate to evaluate the amount of fuel consumption per production power.

The data obtained from the operation of evaporative cooling in Kashan Power Plant show that during a one-month operation period, on average, about three percent in gas fuel and about four percent in diesel fuel for each megawatt of electricity produced, consumption reduction occurs. In different conditions, this amount is at least 1.7 percent and at most 5.7 and 6.7 percent for gas and diesel, respectively. This number is equivalent to less consumption of 7.5 kg of natural gas and 13 kg of diesel fuel for producing one MVh of electrical energy.

With the average operation of the cooling system for about 10 hours during the day and during the four-month peak period in Kashan power plant, an average equivalent of 2365 tons of natural gas or 4000 tons of diesel fuel was consumed, which will result in significant savings in the long term. For a better understanding of this matter, if it is assumed that this saved fuel is sold at the global market, it will earn the country an income equal to 850 thousand dollars for gas or 6.3 million dollars for diesel fuel. It should be noted that this amount was calculated only for one power plant with two gas units.

 Efficiency

The drop in power generation efficiency is one of the effects of increasing ambient temperature on gas turbines. This decrease in efficiency will lead to the non-optimal use of valuable energy resources. The results obtained from the performance of the evaporative cooling system in Kashan power plant show that this system is able to increase the performance efficiency of the gas turbine in the hot season. In different temperature and humidity conditions and in the case of natural gas fuel, the efficiency of gas turbine production increases by 2.3% on average, and this number reaches 1.5% for diesel fuel.

  • Air pollutants

One of the problems of producing electric energy using fossil fuels is the production of air pollutants. Burning natural gas to produce energy compared to other fuels such as coal or gasoline results in the emission of lower amounts of air pollutants and carbon dioxide. The clean-burning properties of natural gas have increased the use of this fuel to produce electrical energy. Consider the following equation:

CH4 + 2O2 > CO2 + 2H2O

According to the above equation, if natural gas is completely burned, the result will be carbon dioxide gas and water vapor. However, due to various reasons, this gas is always not completely burned and leads to the side emission of other air pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide.

In gas turbines, the burning process leads to the release of air pollutants and the reduction of air quality. As mentioned, by using the evaporative cooling system, the fuel consumption of the turbine is increased and subsequently the production power is increased. Similarly, with the increase in fuel consumption, the emission of air pollutants from the gas turbine exhaust also increases. But similar to what was said about fuel consumption, the amount of emitted pollutants decreases in proportion to the production power. On the other hand, reducing the intake air temperature will reduce incomplete combustion and produce less nitrogen oxides.

Due to the lack of real-time monitoring of the pollutants emitted from the chimney outlet, there has not been enough data to investigate the effect of the cooling system on the amount of pollutants emitted. Therefore, in order to investigate this factor, software simulation of gas turbine with gas fuel was performed in two cases of no cooling system and also the presence of cooling on the air inlet of the turbine compressor. The results of this modeling are shown in the following diagram:

What are presented in the above graph, are the results of the simulation of Mapna V.94.2.5 turbine, for the weather conditions of Kashan city in a relative humidity of five percent. As can be seen, by using the wetted-media evaporative cooling systems, the production power of the turbine has increased up to 22.88% at a temperature of 50 degrees Celsius. The effectiveness of this sistem grows up with increasing temperature and decreasing humidity. Corresponding to the increase in temperature, the amount of fuel consumed and subsequently the carbon dioxide produced has increased up to 15.88%. However, if the amount of fuel consumption and released carbon dioxide is taken into consideration according to the turbine power, at a temperature of 50 degrees Celsius and a humidity of five percent, per megawatt of turbine electricity production, the amount of fuel consumption and carbon dioxide pollutant production is up to 5.7% is reduced.

According to the results presented in this subsection, it is clear that the use of wetted-media evaporative cooling systems in the air inlet of the compressor of gas turbines is a plan in line with the environmental goals and a measure to improve the environment of the region and the country. Reduction of fossil fuel consumption as one of the country's main energy sources is one of the advantages of using this plan. On the other hand, by reducing the emission of pollutants caused by burning fossil resources, a step is taken to improve air quality.

The downside of using this system is its water consumption. The investigation and calculations show that this consumption is not a significant number compared to other urban consumption in the country and this consumption can be compensated with corrective measures.

In addition to all the mentioned advantages, one of the most important results of using this plan is to increase the production capacity of the country's power plants during the peak consumption of the grid, without spending a lot of money to build a new power plant or to create an excess capacity over the country's power generation capacity. Preventing grid outages during peak electricity consumption in the hot season of the year will have major socio-economic benefits for the country. Preventing power cuts in industries and reducing production in the country and preventing blackouts in urban areas are among the things that the use of these systems will bring to the country without spending a lot of money.

Unveiling of knowledge-based product “casing with stationary vanes and rotary blades of steam turbine of Shahid Beheshti Lowshan power plant”

The indigenous knowledge-based product "casing with stationary vanes and rotary blades of the 120 MW steam turbine" which is going to be used in the Shahid Beheshti Power Plant in Lowshan was unveiled with the presence of the head of the Presidential Innovation and Prosperity Fund.

According to TABA Public Relations, this product of the knowledge-based "TABA Engineering and Service Co." was presented on saturday, May 20, on the sidelines of the 27th International Oilshow Exhibition in the presence of Mohammad Sadegh Khayatian ‘the head of the innovation and prosperity fund’ and Ali Issapour ‘the director general of the technology and localization office of Thermal Power Plants Holding Co. (TPPH)’.

After visiting this product, Dr. Mohammad Sadeq Khayatian, said to reporters: “In recent years, in the field of participation of knowledge-based companies in large-scale industrial projects, very good measures have been taken, one of which is the abandonment of public sector tender procedures for The productivity of the products and services of knowledge-based companies is done with the permission of the Supreme Leader and the approval of the upstream institutions”.

The head of the innovation and prosperity fund in another part of his speech clarified: “The problem of reconstruction does not end only with reverse engineering, even most companies can achieve product design and production after the reconstruction process. So far, the innovation fund aims to expand this knowledge of reconstruction and design in the country has had many support programs. In the field of knowledge-based products, such as what the "TABA" knowledge-based company has restructured, if the demands are aggregated, the innovation fund is ready to support knowledge-based companies that can redesign various tools and equipment”.

Dr. Ali Issapour ‘the director general of the technology and localization office of TPPH’ on the sidelines of this unveiling, emphasized that the complex affairs and engineering process of this super project included various stages and phases: “due to the lack of easy access to the real designers and sufficient documents, the added value of completing this project will multiplies”.

He added: “the Stationary and Rotary shell and blades of the 120 MW Shahid Beheshti Lowshan power plant with a nominal speed of 3000 rpm, an inlet temperature of 530 degrees Celsius and an inlet pressure of 120 bar have been completely engineered and produced by the manufacturer. Actions such as reverse engineering in the field of materials, measurement in different ways, analysis of existing documents and assembly conditions, modeling and analysis of parts and turbines, use of correct standards and appropriate manufacturing methods are among the valuable activities that this company has been carried out relying on the young manpower and the proficiencies of experienced managers and has led to the total internal reconstruction of the said turbine”.

Isapour continued: “Today we witnessed the unveiling of a product that was produced for the first time in the country by the experts of one of the knowledge-based companies. This product is related to a steam turbine that was suspended for many years in one of the country's power plants, because its equipment was not usable and it had to be reused by its foreign manufacturer. However, thanks to the efforts of an Iranian knowledge-based company, today we have reproduced this strategic product and have been able to put this blade into operation and the mentioned power plant can use it in the near future”.

Engineer Ali Nikbakht, CEO of TABA engineering and service company and chairman of the board of the Iranian power plant trade association (ASNA power plant), said about this achievement: “The project that the knowledge-based company TABA is abled to achieve is the localization and construction of the "Stationary and Rotary shell and blades of the steam turbine" that is part of steam turbines and is used in power plants”.

He added: “This project has been started since 18 months ago. We had the shell temporarily, but we reconstructed parts of it because the shell was completely destroyed, so we designed the product from the beginning and modeled it from the parts”.

The CEO of this knowledge-based company emphasized: “In the process of renovating this product, we held about 120 two-hour technical meetings for evaluation and necessary checks. When construction phase started, complex cases including casting of various alloys and very complex weldings were used”.

Nikbakht stated: “This super project is a steam turbine of 6,000 pieces, which after renovation and installation can provide electricity to more than 10,000 households per day”.

It is worth mentioning that the Shahid Beheshti Power Plant in Lowshan was put into operation in 1351. This complex is one of the thermal power plants with a production capacity of 360 MW and includes 2 gas units of 60 MW and 2 steam units of 120 MW.

Recording 56 days as the shortest time for doing a major overhaul on 13E2 gas turbine in Persian Gulf Power Plant

Eng. Majid Zarei, a board member of TABA knowledge based Engineering and Services co. and project manager of the two gas unit overhaul of GT13E2 turbine has announced recording 56 days as the shortest time for doing a major overhaul on 13E2 gas turbine in Persian Gulf Power Plant.

Announcing this news, he mentioned that completing this project in such short time is a great achievement which was the result of the Power industry’s trust in our company, night and day effort of our team and efficient supervision of Persia Gulf Power Production Management Company. In this power plant, the cooperation of a knowledge based company and the turbine manufacturer, GE was observed for the first time with a package of main parts supply, presenting technical services and completing the overhaul in a 59 days period contact.

This contract was one of the biggest overhaul contracts last year with the value of 55 billion Tomans, which TABA company could obtain customer trust by offering a competitive price with the support of the main manufacturer, long term warranty along with a shorter time consuming overhaul in a very competitive atmosphere.

While by having a lot of problems, achieving that record was at risk. Also knowing that the previous overhaul was accomplished in 100 days, completing this project in 56 days, even 3 days earlier than what was mentioned in the contract, was unbelievable.

He also mentioned a lot of problems putting this project at risk such as exchange rate fluctuation for about 50%, liquidity injection issues, environmental pressure, management changes in the employer company, strategic part supply in a one month period, customs issues and sometimes unpredictable tools defects.

But with daily and even hourly follow ups and with precise planning we could connect the unit to the network in a 56 days period while unit 21 of this power plant had faced an unsolved problem in using the second fuel for years. But with participation of our knowledge based company and the main manufacturer we could activate the gas fuel consumption and this turbine is now using both.

The project manager announced that we are doing the overhaul of unit 31 and a marvelous job was done here as providing a 10-tonne combustion chamber to the outer segment carrier of zone 1 of the turbine from GE Co. in Switzerland about 10 days after signing the contract which coincided with Nowrouz holidays. But with our team’s effort we could carry, clear and deliver this part and continue to assemble the Unit 31 urgently, which has been remarkably fast in the service industry across the company.

"Even though we have worked well in the project so far, according to the honorable employer, but the company's strategy is moving from good to excellent and we plan to make more customer enhancements from the perspective of the time of work, the improvement of service quality, and the provision of upgrade solutions, more value for the customer. To this end, the company has a comprehensive agenda in order to present new literature in the country's repair industry using the technologies of the day to provide better management to reduce the cost of repairs and shorten the time." he said.

Mr. Majid Zarei announced at the end that in this project, we have managed to successfully practice group work literature, including the cooperation of the executive, engineering and commercial teams of the company in order to localize repair knowledge away from environmental pressures by cooperation with the company GE and with knowledge management, the company announces that in the year of national production it has been able to interpret the self-respecting self-image in this area. According to the Public Relations Department of TABA Engineering & Services Co., the second Conference on Inactive Defense and Sustainable Development was held by the Ministry of the Interior with the support and participation of the Inactive Defense Organization and more than 30 universities, research institutes and executive departments with the presence of TABA Engineering & Services Company and presentation by Managing Director of this company, Mr. Nikbakht, on "Reconstruction of old power plants and its impact on sustainable development" and participation in the exhibition to present the latest achievements of the company in the field of passive defense at the site of the Ministry of Interior on November 16th and 17th 2017.

Engineer Nikbakht in this program, while outlining the technical aspects and engineering knowledge of the project and rehabilitation of the steam turbine of Shahid Beheshti Power Plant, said:

In pursuance of the goals of the Resistance Economy of Production and Employment, the knowledge based project on the localization of the steam turbine of Lowshan Shahid Beheshti Power Plant, along with the construction of the main components, was recently commissioned by TABA’s Engineering and Services Company for the first time, under the order of the Lowshan Power Generation Company.

The implementation of all engineering phases in the construction, assembly and installation of this project has been completed within a period of less than five months within the country. It is also safe to say that, with the implementation of this knowledge-based project, the production capacity of the Lowshan Shahid Beheshti Power Plant's steam plant has been renowned after its rehabilitation, and this increase is equivalent to the supply of 71,000 households.

With the successful implementation of this knowledge-based project, TABA Co., with the cooperation of more than 20 domestic industrial plants, related laboratories and the center of the Amir Kabir University New Technology Research Center, managed to be selected as the premier project in the field of passive defense of Guilan province by the governorate.

Engineer Nikbakht further assessed the state of the country's old power plants and highlighted the importance of rehabilitation and the impact of the rebuilding old power plants on sustainable development in terms of non-operational defense.

Managing Director of TABA Engineering & Services said at the end of his speech:

It is hoped that the successful implementation of this project could be an effective example of expanding the culture of rehabilitation in other power plants, thereby making a major step towards the improvement of the country and the establishment of lasting security throughout Islamic Iran.

The domestic researchers, with the optimization and rehabilitation approach of power plants, have been developing steam turbine shells, along with fixed blades, by reengineering method.

According to the public relations and notices department of the presidential science and technology deputy, the old steam power plants still active in the national grid are sometimes not well-off due to oldness and depreciation. These plants have a significant deviation from the original designed efficiency. On the other hand, burnout and defects in some of the main parts of the power plant are the main causes of this decline in efficiency. On this basis, TABA knowledge based engineering and Services Company, has been trying to optimize and rehabilitate power plants units to increase the efficiency of the old ones.

Ali Nikbakht, CEO of TABA Engineering & Services Co., said that with successive attempts in building steam turbine shells, along with fixed blades by re-engineering method, said: With the help of "Rehabilitation" technology, using the knowledge of the day, power equipment, Supplying spare parts and, of course, utilizing the design and reengineering processes, the main parts of the power plant, are optimized.

By announcing the status of Lowshan Shahid Beheshti Power Plant Nikbakht said: this power plant with a rated capacity of 360 MW has two steam units with a total capacity of 240 megawatts. Over nearly five decades of continuous activity of this power plant, the turbines are not in proper operational condition and also turbine blades and shells have been fatigued over time. Therefore, due to the lack of support from the foreign manufacturer of power plant equipment in competitive conditions, with the presence of domestic and foreign competitors, TABA Engineering & Services Co., was chosen as a rehabilitation contractor.

Manufacturing Engineering Processes

The engineering phase of the project includes the steps of measuring the dimensions of used parts and estimating their initial dimensions, analyzing and determining the metallurgical properties of blades and rings, providing 3D models and manufacturing drawings, making quality control instructions and compiling knowledge of casting, simulation, melting and vibration analysis.

Referring to the fundamental challenge in the project, he said: "The lack of technical specifications and access to a sample of the components was a major challenge, which was, of course, facilitated during time and by major overhauls and engineering documentation. It was also carried out with the goal of reducing vibrations, reengineering and improving design on fixed blades.

The technology activist stated: In the course of this research project, the engineering and technical team of TABA Company, in cooperation with the New Technologies Institute of Amir Kabir University of Technology, has developed the required technical knowledge.

Manufacturing Process

Pointing out that the construction phase of the project began with the development of fume shell designs as well as aluminum foam molds, said after the construction of the models, casting operations were carried out under the supervision of this company and in domestic capable plants.

He added that the greatness of the shells, the volume of molten material, the control of mechanical properties, the grain size and the shape of the metallurgical structure, had a special significance in the project.

CEO of TABA Engineering and Services Co., referring to the technical specifications of the research project, stated: "Machining of shells, despite their large dimensions, should be done with proper care. Of course, internal experts have well done the process of machining blades and shrouds by using precision machines.

Assembly Process

Nikbakht with pointing to the assembly phase and the main challenge after the production of shells stated that: In this part of the research work, the blades were assembled on the respective shells as well as the shrouds on the blades, which was done with extensive care and Eventually, the crust fitted to the blade and shrouds, in conjunction with the power plant's specialists on the steam turbine shell, was installed.

Achievements

This technology activist said that the implementation of all engineering phases in the construction and assembly of the project was done within less than five months and this was achieved only through the precise planning and management of the project as well as the pursuit of the employer's supervisory apparatus, as well It is safe to say that by implementing this knowledge-based project, the power of the steam generating unit of Lowshan Shahid Beheshti power plant has been renamed after rehabilitation.

According to this report, TABA knowledge-based company, with the cooperation of more than 20 domestic industrial plants, related laboratories and universities, was able to take a safe step towards the realization of the objectives of the resistance economy, production and employment. We hope that the successful implementation of this project will be able to expand the culture of rehabilitation in other power plants as an effective example.

Eng. Manuchehr Shahmiri, TABA knowledge-based engineering and Service Company’s project manager, has announced manufacturing of hollow Shaft Shell, U-ring and hot spare parts of other fixed and mobile blades of Kraft Turbine V.93 of Lowshan Power Plant.

He noted that the implementation of this project in short time and with high quality components made a major achievement in the construction of hot turbine blades, and was carried out by continuous and precise effort of the engineering, quality control, planning and commercial colleagues and the guidance and support of the CEO and the members of the Board of Directors of TABA Knowledge-Based company and the effective supervision of Lowshan Power Generation Company and Lowshan Power Management Company.

 

The parts of this turbine were manufactured and supplied by Siemens, which, due to the lack of manufacturer's support in supplying the turbine parts, was commissioned to tender for the construction of these parts by the domestic companies, which TABA knowledge- based engineering company was announced as the winner. Hereby manufacturing of 1-4 rows of mobile blades, 1-4 rows of fixed turbine blades, middle hollow shaft case, U-ring, colors seal divider and other spare parts of the turbines were delivered to TABA.

Manufacturing of these parts began with reverse engineering by three-dimensional optics, modeling and providing drawings based on installation tolerances and casting simulation.

In the next phase of engineering, the quality control guidelines and acceptance criteria for precision casting of super-alloy under vacuum, forge, coating, sheet working, welding and dimensional control instructions were prepared by TABA engineering and R&D Unit.

The quality control team of this company continuously expressed its views during construction with the presence of qualified contractors, and finally, at the end of construction, the parts were delivered and approved according to the control guidelines.

He added that the project was completed within a short timeframe of about one year with the follow-up of the planning and commercial colleagues due to contractual Gantt charts with contractors.

The manager of this project added that supplying the strategic raw material mostly face boycotts, and exchange rate fluctuations, currency shortages in the country, and currency problems in the first two months of 2018 caused many unpredictable problems in the project, but with weekly and even daily follow-ups, we were able to deliver the parts at the time of the overhaul of the Lowshan power plant unit. Now that I’m having this interview, I proudly announce that the parts have been installed correctly and successfully in cooperation with the Lowshan power plant repairing team and have all the permissible installation tolerances. All of the strategic parts of the turbine have been manufactured by TABA Company.

He added that although the project was approved by the employer, the strategy of this company is moving towards greater satisfaction of the employers.

 

He continued, the construction of fixed and mobile 1-4 rows of the same turbine at Shiraz Power Plant was transferred to TABA Knowledge-based company in a bid in 2017 and now the company is in the process of finalizing parts and delivering them to the employer within next month.

We would like to thank the project stakeholders, especially the Thermal Power Generation Company, the Lowshan Power Generation Company, and the Lowshan Power Management Company and their cooperation during the project, and I hope that in the year of supporting Iranian production by maximum utilization of engineering power, Equipment and management of Iranian and native manufacturing processes, provide more services to our country's electricity industry.

On Tuesday, 10 A.M, Jan. 30th 2018, at the site of the Tarasht power plant, the annual general meeting of ASNA was held with the participation of a number of directors and representatives of power plants’ product and operation management and repair companies, with the presence of Mr. Eng. Mehrdad as the Support Deputy of the specialized mother company for the production of thermal power and also Mr. Rabiei, the legal inspector of the Ministry of Cooperation, Labor and Social Welfare. In this meeting after the presentation of the secretary's report, Mr. Hossein Mehriyan, made a speech regarding the activities of the past two years of Mr. Seyed Mohsen Eftekhari, Chairman of the Board, and presented the important goals and challenges facing the Association of Power Plants. The members of the Assembly unanimously approved the reports presented. A financial report of the Association was presented by Mr. Vafarad, ASNA’s financial manager for the past two years, which was approved by all members present at the Assembly, and then Engineer Abulhassan Shibani, the legal inspector of the Board of Directors, delivered a lecture on future activities and presented relevant reports. Engineer Mohammad Reza Zaer Targhi at the opening ceremony of the cooling system of the gas turbines of Shirvan combined cycle power plant, which was held on August 31st  at the site of the plant, said: "The increase in the population of the country has doubled compared to 1397, but the level of installed capacity has increased from 7 thousand to 77 thousand megawatts, which is about 11 times, and this shows the dependence of modern life on electricity and the increasing need for it.

He continued: The practical capability of the gas units of Shirvan Power Plant due to climatic conditions in the best operating conditions is 130 to 140 megawatts and decreases in the warm season of the year by increasing the degree of ISO conditions by approximately 7 percent. Last year in Shirvan, we experienced a power failure, but fortunately this year we did not have such a problem. One of the reasons for this was an increase of 15 megawatts of production capacity of each power plant unit by launching the air intake system of gas turbines, and given this increase in power by relying on equipment and facilities are available. The result of this project was an increase in production, with a forecast of 6.5 megawatts, but in practice this increased output to 10 megawatts. The reduction of turbine and particulate matter has also been the result of this project.

Yaghoubi emphasized that the implementation of the project in units G11 and G12 has led to an increase in production by an average of 16% per unit.

Mehdi Ghodousi, the chairman of the board of directors of Mashhad Power company, referring to the cooperation of the Mashhad power plant with engineering and services company for carrying out the project, said: "These capacities will be attractive for utilizing systems." Mehrdad Ali Gholami, CEO of Lowshan Thermal Power Plant, on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the localization project for the steam turbine of the plant, told reporters: "The power generation capacity of the Loshan Shahid Beheshti power plant units has been limited to 40 MW due to the burnout of devices in recent years, by using the localization capability to rehabilitate the steam turbine, we managed to return it to the amount of 120 megawatts. The engineering phase of this project involves various steps including measuring the dimensions of used parts and estimating their initial dimensions, analyzing and determining the metallurgical properties of blades and rims, drawing up three-dimensional models and building drawings, compiling a quality control and knowledge development casting, simulation, melting and vibration analysis. In this direction, the engineering and technical team of TABA Company, in cooperation with the new technologies Institute of Amir Kabir University of Technology, has been developing the necessary technical knowledge.

Majid Zarei, Member of TABA’s board of directors, said that the main challenge in this project was the lack of technical specifications and access to a sample of parts, which, in the course of time, was subject to major repairs and engineering documentation.

The construction phase of the project began with the development of shell fusions and turbine rings, as well as aluminum blades, and continued with casting operations at the domestic well-developed factories. The magnitude of shells, the volume of molten material, the control of mechanical properties , graining and the shape of the metallurgical structure have a special significance in obtaining favorable results. Managing director of the project, Manouchehr Shahmiri, said: "The machining of shells, despite the large dimensions, shards and blades, required high accuracy of adaptive telescope, which was carried out by all domestic experts." The assembly of new parts made at the turbine of the power plant was also carried out by the contractor in a very short time with the cooperation of the specialists of the Lowshan Power Management Company.

By implementing this knowledge-based project, the power of the steam generating unit of the Shahid Beheshti Power Plant, after the rehabilitation, has come to its forefront.
